The Faculty members in the Department of Psychiatry are attending this year's Kenya Psychiatry Association (KPA) conference. The conference will take place between 14th and 16th May, 2015 at the Hotel Nomad in the town of Eldoret - Uasin Gishu County.
Also attending are the students in the department, mostly those taking/ have completed their Master's programme in Psychiatry and Clinical Psychology. The students are expected to make presentation during the conference. The students attending are those whose Masters' projects were supported by the Linked Mental Health Project. The project is also taking care of their accommodation, travelling and conference registration charges.
Speaking on the same, the Secretary of the KPA Dr. Muthoni Mathai, who is also a Senior Lecturer in the Department as well as the Principal Investigator of the Linked Mental Health Project, said that this was a great opportunity for the successful students to make presentations to the academic and professional world about their scientific work.
Last year's conference, which took place in Mombasa's Travellers Beach Resort, attracted both professionals as well as academicians in the fields of Psychiatry and Psychology throughout the Country and the Continent at large. Corporates interested in the fields also attended. During the conference, Dr. Frederich Owiti from our Department received the KPA Lifetime Achievement Award. We are very proud of this achievement. This year's conference is expected to be much bigger.
